Who hasn’t ever bought some Hanes clothes or Nike shoes? Who doesn’t shop at Wal-Mart? Wal-Mart is one of the shop markets with the largest production and customers at an international level. All of these American companies have some of the largest markets around the world.  They earn billions and thousands of dollars in production. Well in a market where a lot of demand is present a higher amount of production is needed. How are those products made? Unfortunately this industries use children around the world to produce their products. According to the National Labor Committee report 2006, kids as young as 11 years old are sewing clothing for Hanes, Wal-Mart, J.C. Penney, and Puma at the Harvest Rich factory in Bangladesh. The children are forced to work approximately 12 to 14 hours a day for a wage of 6 ½ cents an hour.

The worldwide Responsibly Apparel Production (WRAP) is an independent organization that is in charge of the certification of facilities engaged in lawful, humane, and ethical production. This organization is approved and count with the support of the government and of the 25 international trade associations (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production, n.d.).

With this type of organization government officials assure that workers are safe and well protected on the working field, that the industries are monitored and that they work according to the laws that protect the civil rights. The interesting point of this organization is that many of the industries that had being certificated by the WRAP had failure this certification, such as the Harvest Rich that employee children, making them work excessive hours for a low average wage. Many U.S. companies had being discovered from violence used against those children (Labor & Worklife, n.d.).WRAP is an insult for the workers and the necessities of those children who are force to work because of their economic position. Those types of companies’ abuse from the necessities of the children, those children are hired with low wages and forced to produce excessive production amounts by hour, and in most of the cases, if the production is not reach physical violence is the punishment.

This organization has to be removed in order to assure true safety environments for the workers, and establish another organization that is responsible for monitoring the wages, working hours, and ages of the employers. As a responsible and care society, we need to get involved in the creation a good administration of a new organization because it is about the products we buy everyday and most important it is a civic, moral, and humanitarian duty. What if one of those children was your son or daughter? As individuals we have the power of choosing our political officers that would change and help to the good functionalism of the industries and protect the civil rights of the citizens as well as the enforcement of laws. In addition in every local community there are organizations and clubs, with an easy membership process, that are dedicated to activities such as this one. By creating a happy and safe childhood, we assure a successful future.
